About TED

TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology,
Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are collectively, shaping our future.
In fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline.
Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a day long journey into the
future.” The diverse audience of CEOs, scientists, creatives, and philanthropists is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included former President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.
TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TEDPrize.
Today, nearly 2,000 talks from past TED conferences are now freely available online at TED.com

About TEDxOkpanam

TEDxOkpanam is an independently organized TED event; the very first in this side of town.

Just like other TEDx Talks, TEDxOkpanam looks to inspire the community through the power of IDEAS WORTH SPREADING. We are not looking at only inspiring the community, we are looking at inspiring the world by leveraging on the over 22.2 million subscribers to the TEDx Talks YouTube Channel spread across all countries of the globe.

TEDxOkpanam was conceived by a group of young people with a passion for Delta State, but the desired outcome is that TEDxOkpanam will be the birth of a new mentality and positive change. The event seeks to bring people of all ages, gender, tribes, religions, political ideology, etc. together for an improved community.

TEDxOkpanam has come to stay and will be an annual event only to be held once a year. The theme for the events would be based on factors influencing our world vis-a-vis the community. For the maiden edition, the theme is WHAT NEXT?.

Why The Theme “What Next?”

As we go through life, we all get to significant transitional points in our journey. In our life’s pursuits, there would always be things we pursue and reach out to get. The achievement of one goal evidently leads to the birth of another. And so the pursuit continues.

There are however unexpected events that would happen, against our plans and projections. Things would happen that would ruffle our lives and force us to take

necessary actions almost immediately. At that point, the relevant question to ask is WHAT NEXT?

In 2020 for instance, the entire world was shaken by the Covid19pandemic and a lot of structural adjustments had to be made globally.

Undoubtedly, at the verge of a success or failure, we all need a hand lent to us, to enable us climb the next steps.

After achieving a major feat and everything seems to be in place, what should I do next to ensure I keep up the pace?

After a major disappointment, what do I do next to pick up the broken pieces and move on?

Whether positive or negative, one truth is that we all get to points where a major decision needs to be taken in order to usher us into a new season of our lives.

This reality transcends career, education, marriages, life visions and ambitions and anything you can think of.

How do you decide if your next line of action would deliver to you the intended results?

How do you rise up from a disappointing situation and maximize your living?

These and many more would TEDxOkpanam be addressing via the theme WHAT NEXT?
